Throwback to My KISK Journey

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but… this is the end.
Two years ago, I was accepted into my master’s program, thinking I just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible (motivation for studies here). Now, I find myself feeling nostalgic, wishing I could have it all ahead of me again.
KISK is not just another program at MUNI. It’s a fusion of theory, practice, and community.
At the beginning, my focus was clear - design. Then I ambitiously thought I could handle two specializations (haha). In the end, I completed all courses required for Data and Information management and I missed one course for Information Services Design specialization, but never officially enrolled for final state exam for any.
Along the way, the other two specializations caught my interest as well. Literature a bit less, more EdTech (I even briefly considered doing the teacher’s minimum at the Faculty of Education). The study specializations at KISK are amazing: practical, taught by true experts, and if you have even the slightest interest in learning, each of them can push you forward in a big way.

During my studies, I completed two internships while also starting full-time work. Both internships were in non-profits operating as student organizations at MUNI.The first MUNIE (Masaryk Student Union) organizes cultural, educational, and social events (Masaryk University Student Ball, Art Evening, TEDx MUNI and more). Here, I worked in the marketing department.

The second was SVAM (Safety and Violence Awareness Movement) - founded as a response to cases of sexual violence at MUNI. Today, it addresses a different topic every year and raises awareness not only for victims of violence. This non-profit meant a lot to me, I still collaborate with them and even wrote my thesis there on User testing and redesign of the website.
Working full-time alongside my studies is something I absolutely don’t regret. I’m extremely grateful to be in a position that I love, that matches what I studied, and that fulfills me professionally (Product Manager). After all, isn’t that the ultimate goal of studying - to land a role that truly excites you?
Some of my biggest study highlights that directly shaped what I do today:
FF:ISKM56 Data Visualization - I learned that a graph isn’t just a “pretty picture,” but a story
FF:ISKM65 User Research - an intense but incredibly valuable practical course with Tereza Kosnarova. More here.
FF:ISKM47 Project Management - I had low expectations, but ended up learning a lot and even applying a practical project from my job (cleaning up our team backlog).
And many more interesting courses worth mentioning: FF:ISKM02 DISRI, FF:KPI22 Creative Work with Information, FI:VV052 Evening Drawing…
In case you are interested, deep dive into semester reflections can be found below:
In my bachelor’s, I gained an overview of economy, business, accounting, and management. At KISK, I went deeper - connecting it all with design, research, validation, teamwork, and the fact that even software development depends on research and data-driven decision-making. KISK was truly the door that opened my path to my dream job.

Thank you, KISK, for helping me find myself!
